Houses in this gated area have been reported to be haunted by a couple that lived there in the early 1990's from what I've seen/ what ive heard say that late at night by the gated pool/ houses 1-24 there's ghost like figures walking around singing in a low wisper almost like a humm I lived there around 2004 and late at night I would hear wispering and talking in another room in my home. Also lights would flicker and things would get pushed off tables and chairs would be moved across or into another room. And when I talked to a few of the resadence in houses 1-7 they said a few of the samething have happend to them also. I lived in this duplex for most of my childhood and and teenage life. For a total of almost 12 or 13 years. I moved out when I was 17 years old. This duplex was 2 bedroom and my parents allowed my brother and I to share the master bedroom. My parents took the other room. In the smaller room my mom said one night that she saw the devil in the corner of the room. She described it as being a goat-like horned figure. When I got a little older, around 8 years old I got the smaller room, my parents moved into the master bedroom, my parents made my older brother a room in the garage. My experiences in that room were tremendous. One night I was laying in my bed with the hall light on because I have always been afraid of the dark. Suddenly there was a gigantic black figure standing in my doorway. It was huge and as tall as my ceiling. It was blacker than night. Built in 1923, the John Muir elementary school operated for 30 years before being converted to a youth center. It was also used as storage by the city of Modesto. Workers working in the basement in recent times often heard the voices and thundering feet of children. The workers would run up the stairs only to find empty halls. The school was also attended by Modesto`s favorite native son, George Lucas.

A fire recently heavily damaged the old building. Currently, it is unknown if the building can be saved.

Firefighters training in the fire room of the tower have had strange experiences. On one occasion two firefighters advancing a hoseline were thrown back. They described having the hose pulled backwards even though no other firefighters were around to move the hose (and it was not due to water pressure). Instructors advised that there have been many strange experiences in the fire room. Unknown if it is related to a firefighter who fell from the tower to his death in 1999.... At one of the two Blockbusters on McHenry Ave in Modesto, most employees have witnessed this entity. It seems to be male and has a desire to make contact with the living. After closing, he will activate battery operated toys that are sold in the store, open and close the locked bathroom door, turn the lights off and on and then off again, and most frightening of all, he speaks to the employees through the store sound system. When all trailer tapes have stopped running and the satellite TV display has been shut off, the ghost has been known to say things such as... "shh... listen," and "you`ve been bad..." Another incident that took place was after midnight when a manager and another employee went into the office momentarily only to return finding over thirty movie cover boxes stacked neatly on top of each other in the floor. According to an employee who has been with the hotel for 27 years a woman was killed in the kitchen by an enraged boyfriend. There are also rumors of more than one person killing themselves in the kitchen. The building that now houses workers of a local 24 hour ambulance service also holds the ghosts of former residents. It is said that back in the 60`s two parents killed their three children in the house. Also, as recently as the early 90`s, an old Indian man died in the house alone while praying to a religious alter. This room, where the old man died is avoided by the current occupants due to cold and ominous feelings of dread. The employees of the ambulance service have witnessed: doors and windows opening and closing at will, objects moving across the room, the shower turning off and on, the sound of voices and children playing in the house, the sound of footsteps, and recently while one employee showered she heard a voice yell "Get out!" This sent the employee out of the bathroom, out of the house, and onto the front lawn where she stood trembling under a wet towel.
