Location Description:
Prospect Park is one of the oldest and largest parks in Redlands CA. The land was given to the city as an 80th birthday present. It was originally owned by 2 of Redlands cofounders in the 1800's. The park owes its name to a small hotel that was built on the property that no longer exists.
Many rumors exsist claiming the park is haunted. Its been said that the park was a popular dumping ground for dead bodies due to its dense foliage. Homless people often take refuge in the bamboo patches in the park and it has been said that some of them have even died there. The park is a very popular place for satan worshippiers to gather. At night they can be seen in the park sitting in circles, chanting and lighting fires. On rare occasion they will sacrifice small animals in the park. The animals shreiks can be heard echoing throughout the park when they are killed. In the theater area, footsteps are often heard runnig across the stage. Sounds of the seats in the theater folding up are also heard.
For many years, rumors have circulated about a girl that was raped and murdered behind the theater at the park. No evidence exists to support this rumor. I believe that this rumor emerged because of a 15 year old girl who was raped and murdered in Redlands in the 1970's. Though this did not occur near the park, it may be what the rumor is based on.
Regardless,Prospect Park is large, creepy and with no doubt has a lot of strange activity. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE 10/15/2010 Security cameras have recently been installed in different places in the park. The only location that I am 100% sure has a camera is the theater. It is understandable that they put the cameras in, as the park has been regularly used by transients and drug dealers. Though the park is still accessible at night, I would recommend using caution. The police are a little more strict about people being there at night. The park has always technically been closed at night, but it was rarely enforced. That appears to have changed.
