Location Description:

The legend of the bridge past Kitchen Lake is that a very long time ago, a witch lived in a wooden house with a stone chimney right before the intersection of 119 and Air Depot, where Air Depot ends. The house burned down mysteriously and only the fireplace and chimney are left standing. There have been several occurrences of smoke seen coming out of the chimney. If you go about 2 miles down the road, where the road ends at the bridge, there are 10 or 12 separate piles, one of old toys, one of old clothes, one ceiling tiles, one wood, one glass, and several more that you can`t see anymore because they have all been burnt to ash. There are things hanging from the trees and animals with heads missing have been seen out there as well. Witnesses report even seeing the different piles smoldering at times. Legend has it the witch died in a fire and her soul still burns anything that is near her property with a vengeance. Even the few scattered houses out there have scorch marks on the roofs. Driving out there, cars tend to not start, headlights often go off, and there is an incredibly eerie feeling surrounding the whole area as if someone is watching you. You can also hear footsteps following directly behind you if you are VERY quiet and when you turn around, there is nothing.

Quite a few people have been out there and report feeling creepy, sensing temperature anomalies, and hearing footsteps. Some have seen St. Elmo`s Fire (ball lightning) and fantastic displays of fog.

Others have seen mysterious figures in the dark, and even a runaway horse. One person reported that a mysterious headless bear threw a beer bottle at them.

I have been here to the bridge. Some friends and I were driving down 119th and we passed Air Depot Blvd. We headed down to the bridge. We got to the bridge and then after a couple of minutes later after sitting there we all felt really uncomfortable. So we got in the car turned around and as we were approaching Air depot Blvd going West on 119th st towards sooner rd. the headlights on the car were flashing and the windshield wipers all came on by themselves. It was kinda freaky, but not bad came out of it after wards.

I have been reading this stuff about kitchen lake and the abandonded house on 119 for some time. I lived in Del city from the mid 70's to the 90's (Del city is north about 5 miles) I can shead a little light on this highly overrated site. First of all, The bridge that crossed the creek just west of Midwest Blvd. washed out in the late 70's and was not rebuilt. About the same time, the city was talking about increasing the size of draper lake and purchased some property to the south and west of draper lake. (several properties on 119 west of the lake were sold as a result.) Long story short, 119th west of the lake became a vacent street. When the bridge washed out, it left 119th without easy access. The "Witch" house (on the north side, about 1/4 mile West of the former bridge) sat empty for some time. The house is almost 2 miles EAST of kitchen lake. At some point it burned, but I do not belive that it was occupied when it burned. The combination of being on a "dead end road" which is isolated and not well traveled, coupled with the stories of the haunting are the only things that make the location "creepy" I had been out to that area several times with friends in the early 80's both day and night. I was also there several times during the 90;s and had a geocache near the area (Westlake by drive-in) and was in the area at varying hours. Granted, it was creepy, but I never had a problem with a car not starting, finding things burning, hearing footsteps, or any other such occurances. Another site lists kitchen lake as, "PROS feels this place is not safe for conduting futher investigations" I'm sorry folks, but these guys are smoking crack. . .If you look at the pictures, you can see the bridge out blockaids behind them in the second picture, (which alleges "This picture is of Ron and the "witch" at Kitchen Lake.") also, you can see the southern most concrete block (which is visible in google earth pictures just west of the washed out bridge . . and 2 miles from kitchen lake) but my point is that the "spirit" looks strangly like frosted breath, or cigarette smoke. . .and it looks like the guy is wearing a jacket, and it looks like frost on the ground..humm SOOOooo. . . I don't think there is anything to this story but a lot of hype. . and interestingly enought the site at: http://theshadowlands.net/places/oklahoma.htm lists a "Crybaby bridge for Moore, OK" Even though there is a 2005 update, I should mention that this was at 134th (one mile south of Kitchen lake) on Sooner road. . .

I have a geocache located at the bridge on 119th. The road from Kitchen Lake is closed but you can reach the bridge from Midwest Blvd. This place has been a hangout for local kids. Not too creepy here. I also had a cache on the bridge on 149th. This road has been closed too. The only way to get to it is a long walk. This area is creepy, but some places are just that way. There was a house that burned down just to the east of the bridge on 149th. I never liked checking on my geocache that was located here. There was a pentagram painted on the road just before the bridge and I once found a sheep with it's head cut off down there. There was always a lot of trash dumped there. The areas are closed because the county won't spend the money to fix the bridges and people were using it for a dump. Haunted? Probably not.

Just left from here.

From I-240 and I-35 go east to Sooner RD (77H) Go south to 119th (theres a sign that says 'Firstep'  Turn Left ( East) and its @ 500 ft to the west of Air Depot on the north side.

I was there from 1900 to 2030 tonight 06/01/08 walking the site with my wife and dog.

Nothing on the EMF meter,Felt nothing,Compass and Dog acted normally.

Then we went south on Air Depot to 134th the bridge was out.

We park, walked across the bridge and went about 500ft and there was another bridge out sign for oncoming traffic. It didnt need one though, that bridge has been out so long, you couldnt see the road.

There is a field on the east side that had alot of Bamboo growing. I look a little further and there was a childs baby doll hanging by a rope by its leg from a tree.

As we left I saw a sign face down. I turned it over,It said

"BEWARE OF EVIL SPIRITS"

Also there was not a single problem with the car.

And the Chimney is only about 2 ft high.

I did see alot of 'cow patties' though

You can see it as you drive east on 119 on the north side before Airdepot.

The only thing that scard me was getting Mr. Happy caught in the barbed wire

Ok, first off, I went there in the summer of 2006. To start with, the house is on a guy's property. They don't take kindly to folks going out there and checking the house out if they catch you. They will call the cops or come out and fuss ya out if they see you out there. The story of the house is not true about it burning, so I've been told by someone who said he knew the folks and slight history around there. The lady of the house died after her husband died. Both were old. The house was torn down, but they never got rid of the concrete slab. The chimney is clean as a whistle due to rain, so if anyone sees smoke, it isn't chimney dust. ; p A friend and me thought the bridge listed was right there in the exact same area, so we went searching. While we were, the person who let us know the info. about the property being owned where the house remnants were located, had a friend drive him up in a car and drop him off right there. We went to meet him because we thought we were caught. He showed us where the bridge was at and was on our side. At the bridge, supposedly footsteps are heard 'behind' you. The place was creepy, it was a clear night, and the trees are massively tall, causing the wind to sound so strange when it blows. It was intermittent the wind was, so any hearing of things would actualy come easy considering it is out in the middle of the woods and surrounded by leaves to be trampled upon. We all heard footsteps off to our right if we were facing the bridge directly... and behind us if we turned left from facing the bridge. No matter how many times we shined the light over the direction of the noise, we saw no extra signs of moving brush or anything.. not even a shadow. The guy who randomly showed up said that there were coyotes in the woods, so because of that I can't actually say the steps were paranormal, BUT they did seem to start up in the same spot each time and were the sound of a heavier set creature upon the leaves/brush. Now, next I was the only one to get the next thing out of the 3 of us, but i caught a breif 2 second smell of something that seemed like extremely dead flesh. Then no smell at all for 5 minutes, and then 2 seconds of it again. That happened within about a 30 minute time span and did seem to go along with the steps to that right side of the bridge if you are facing it. The smell was not present at all before or after this time. We spent 2 hours down there, and things did not start up until after an hour. Our 1st hour in the area was spent at that house. So a total of 3 hours. During this time, the guy that showed up said he had seen an orange ball of like what someone else mentioned in these postings... shoot past under the bridge, but he thought his head was playing tricks on him. Oddly enough, he said he lived on the other side of the trees and that he had been through the woods tons of times and never even had really considered the bridge haunted, although he said that he had seen some old shacks back in the woods before. He said there was a legend that there used to be a killer on the other side of it pretty often at some point in the past and that his spirit might still put curses on people, but he put that to legend since he had walked through the woods so many times. He also said that one of the neighbors there at the T in the road to go to the house or down to the bridge, said that they will shoot at vehicles occasionally or even people walking by. The only other very intersting thing, was that when we were down at the bridge, there was a car with headlights that seemed to pull in and take a road off to the left between the T and the bridge. We did not see it come back out at any point, but if I remember correctly, the road did follow on back a ways. Anyway, this is the whole story. Our stay was between 830 and 9pm, and lasted until midnight. I believe on a thursday evening, but I am not sure. I wil post this same stuff over on the K.L. witch listing too. Chimney apparently has fallen down since 2 years ago as well. When friend and I went, it was still standing. And no drinks, drugs, fully awake. And, as a last ammendment to my copied and pasted statements, the hung doll is probably an attempt at a form of voodoo, although possible it could be one to try to ward away spirits in a certain section or bring bad ones around, or for those folks who get close enough to some spots, may have something temporarily latch onto them.

Went here last night, took many pictures, we didn't see anything strange while we were there, however 2 of our pictures have heavy smoke in the frame where the main rubble is. We also found an incredible rusted blue children's wagon... made a nice souvenier =)

My friends and I went to Kitchen Lake quite a few times. The stories aren't all true but we found two different bridges; and we spent 4 hours walking around. We actually got stuck in our cars and they had automatic locks which I found was quite weird. Another thing is we went during the summer time; and it was 40 degrees outside. It was creepy but thrilling. While walking about a mile east down the road there was tall grayish black figure about 8 feet high just crossing the dirt road over and over.I must say; I had pulled a few pranks on my friends and believe me, carma came back on all of us but this was no prank about the figure, the brusling in the middle of a field, and a car that we had seen disappear!! Our car had gotten stuck in a 3 foot hole that we didn't see before. Keep in mind we walked for 4 hours searching and memorizing where we were and had been; suddenly our jeep got stuck in a hole. Another thing that I had found weird were the baby foot prints on our windshield before we left; it had fogged up and none of us have babies; or children that would walk on our cars. There was so much more but I figure it was just the wind.

My friends and I went last night. It was one of the scariest things I've experienced. We heard footsteps on both sides of the road. Had no clue what it was but there was constanty grass crackling and sounds of branches breaking. And no it wasnt the wind there was no wind that night. But we r going back tonight to see if we can get further

i live right down the street from this place. We always go down there at night on four wheelers. its a group of about 8 people. we went down there once and our neighbors camera took one pic and turned off. So my dad got his, and agian, took one pic and the camera turned off. we thought maybe just the batteries were bad... but when we got back to the house, they worked just fine. Another time we went down we heard footsteps in the bushes, we were pretty sure they were 2 footed, so not an animal. my dad screamed HEY they stopped for a second, then they started even faster. >The bridge is now blocked off and you cant get over it with a car, not even 4 wheelers. but the chimmney of the house is still there. there is also a hanging baby somewhere in the trees. The man that lives down there hates it when u come down there so dont get caught! :( i am only 14 years old and i love scary movies and hauntings, but this has to be the best haunting place to go to!

hmmm.....how close were you to the rails of the bridge that were left? were you on the side where all the rock and debris were at? what direction were you facing when you heard the footsteps? There was ONLY one direction that the footstep sounds came from when I was there, and I was facing the bridge from the debris side. If you can tell me about this, then this would definitely be a possibility as a shared experience, but at two different times.

Well, my friends and I just went out to Kitchen Lake Bridge tonight. It was kind of creepy. On the way to the bridge we saw a few cars and a guy standing out around his pickup truck. When we got to the bridge, we were about to get out of the car and search around, but then we saw a car gunning it in our direction. When the car got near us, it backed up and turned off its lights. We freaked out and drove away. The car chased us all the way until we were off the property. I doubt it was anything haunted. Just angry property owners. The only thing is that we did this at 4 in the morning. WTF were these people doing at 4 in the morning?

First, with the recent flood of anonymous postings that I have seen recently which have been nothing but spam, suggested that you start signing in with a name. You probably have to do it for email and various other sites, so why not this one? ; p

Next, you're asking what they were doing out at 4in the morning, yet you were there to witness it at 4 in the morning?! lolololololololol You should probably try to concentrate on it between maybe 10:30pm and 2am.

Anyway,yeah... A car backed up and turned off its lights, and then ya'll drove away? If it was coming in your direction, wouldn't that have blocked you in? ; p

Lastly, please stay focused on something that could probably be classified as actual haunting... Like maybe the car dissapeared into a line of trees with no path in it or something. This area does have some touchy neighbors, as it's already been stated by a few people on here. If what happened really did happen instead of spam to the site, then congratulations, you probably made a smart move to leave.

My little brother came to stay with me at OU and so did my friend from Texas, last night 06/08/09. We turned onto 119th and when you get to Air Depot, turn left and go about 1-2 miles and when you get to the end there is a bridge out sign ahead. If you turn to the left there is a road that runs into a dead end, and on the right a wooden bridge and a house that people live in. We couldn't see crap, so after my bro and my friend left there separate ways today I went back to the location to see if I could see it in the day. 06/09/09 3:55 P.M. I turned off of 77 onto 119 before Air Depot I saw a brick structure that was broken, IDK if it was it, so I turned right onto Air Depot road and went all the way to the end right before the Bridge out sign 50 ft. or so on the left you will see a burnt down wooden house and what looks like a chimney which once was and a shed beside it. I took like 4 photos and I didn't see anything, just really uneasy feeling, if someone has more knowledge please tell me.

Me and my two friends just went out there tonite. 7-10-09. We turnd onto 119th and a car pulled in behind us. i pulled over and they said what are yall crazy you dont want to go down there. we got them to follow us down there and as soon as we got to air depot they left us stranded. so we pressed on. we came upon the road block we dident feel good about getting out of the truck. my female friend would not get out for nothing. so me and daniel pressed on past the block. everything was fine the road got really wide and then really narrow then wide again and then it got narrow again we started smelling this awful smell of rotting flesh so we turnd around we started walking really slowly and i suggested we walk backwards and as soon as i did the trees started moving on both sides we bolted back to the truck with the sound following right behind us we JUMPED in the truck and took off and hit a tree....... PRETTY SCARY SHIT... DO NOT GO OUT THERE WITH JUST YOU AND A BUDDY. Take a big group... TOMMYNIzER

So me and about 8 or 9 other people went out there last night.  At first nothing was happening...I got out and screamed "I killed your baby" at the top of my lungs. A few seconds later, it began to rain. We walked further down the road, and saw a baby doll hanging from a tree from its leg.  Then a dog barked, my friend shined his flashlight to where the noise had come from and there was nothing. We started walking back when a big gust of wind came through...about 4 of the people I was with claim they heard a wisper in their ear...they couldnt make out what it said...just a faint wisper. We sprinted to the truck and hit about 110 getting out of there!

I was wandering if I someone could explain to me exactly what bridge you are talking about? I went today to try to find the place during daylight hours and the only place I could find was on 134th and Air Depot. The bridge is fairly easy to cross over but wanted to see if that is where everyone is talking about. I also went to the "witch" house and there were cows in the pasture so I figured that it was private property so we didnt go over the fence. Again, the bridge I found is there but just not sure if this is the one that I need to go to. There is no barbed wire fence, etc. around it. Someone please tell me cuz I plan on going back really soon and if anyone wants to go just let me know!!!

Ok I am the one posted earlier. A couple of friends and I went to this so called bridge and there was nothing creepy about this place other than the owl hooting in the nite. We followed the road and even ventured off on another path and found some old houses but nothing happened to us. I am not so sure that this place has any paranormal whatso ever here. The only bad thing was there a small blue truck that kept driving by and then eventually stopped where we had parked. Other than that this place was just normal. No hair standing up, nothing, zilch, nadda. Even took pics and nothing in them. Sorry to bust everyone's bubble but this place sucked

Just got back from there. Not much to see--a bunch of dim-witted cows wandering around a concrete slab littered with bricks and mortar.

The noises you hear, are animals, and oil dereks!  Spent a lot of time out there in high school, partying and playing tricks on people.  have been on both sides of the bridges walked across the steel supports, been all through the woods, have seen the shacks.  No remnents of anyone.  Good fishing in the creek if the people that live there will let you fish.  Lots of fun to spook people though!
