Location Description:

South of Elreno Behind the Old Sewage Plant is a Road that Curbs Dangerously it is Said that in 1987 there was a reported death toll of 9 people and if you go out there and wait for a bit it has been reported that you can hear cars crashing and people Screaming!

---------------------------------------

Update: Jan 31, 2008-

Did a lot of looking on google maps for remnants of a sewage plant near a curved road, that is south of el reno.... Didn't find a damned thing.... so listed as 'Urban Legend'

The location is wrong in the original article. The correct location is north of El Reno and east of Highway 81.  The sewage lagoons are located there. Next to them is Shepard Street. It goes north until it connects with another road. This is where a very sharp turn to the left is found, going towards the highway. The accident did happen when a van failed to make the sharp turn and rolled into a wheat field. I do know that there were fatalities.

Thank You.

It is south of town before the bridge go east it use to be a very narrow road that turns sharply north. It use to be an easy way to drive around el reno to avoid the stop lights. As far as the legend never heard of it.

So which is it, north or south side of town? I'm more interested in the plant than some stupid road. A "sewer plant" could be anything from a couple of little ponds and a small building, to a large complex with digesters and tanks, the description is a little vague...

Urban legend on several levels: 1. Grew up and graduated from High School from El Reno - graduated in 1987, in fact. Believe me, if nine people had died in car crashes around town that year I'd have heard about it. 2. The old Rock Island rail depot curves around behind the old sewage plant, not a road. There's nothing but RR tracks there. 3. South of town there used to be Caddo Jakes crossing, but the path to it was pretty much straight as an arrow once you got on the right road. Other than that there's nothing but cow pastures and a rinky-dink airport. No Dead Man's "curb" (I think the author meant "curve") out there. 4. I think the author is thinking of or heard about a funny little curve Highway 66 takes when it turns into Sunset Blvd right in front of the football stadium. It used to be the main drag, and there have been some bad car crashes there, including some fatalities, over the years.

The dead mans curve being refered to in the original comment is located just outside of town. If you enter El Reno at the first exit coming from Yukon and continue heading straight you will eventually come to a very sharp curve in the road which is just outside the main part of El Reno, there are a few tanks and ponds to the left of the street which is one of the older "sewage" plants. The curve is quite sudden and very sharp and barely enough room for two small vehicles to pass each other. There have been quite a few wrecks out there and a few local residents who live along the road have reported loud crashes and screams and when they go outside to investigate they find nothing and no one.

I'm sorry, but this is simply not true. There are two ways to get from Yukon to El Reno using main roads, and one other one using a minor road: all come from the East; none of them come even remotely close to the old sewage plant - or the new one - located on the Northwest side of town; none of them "curve" either suddenly or sharply. I-40 has two exits into El Reno coming from Yukon; old Highway 66 is a straight shot; Foreman Drive likewise is a straight shot into Yukon going the "back way," either direction. As mentioned above, the only half-way tricky "curve" on a major street in El Reno is at Sunset Drive right in front of the football stadium - and even that one gets "tricky" only if you're going about sixty miles per hour in what is a 30mph zone. There have been some fatalities there, mostly teenagers cruising the drag and going way too fast when they hit that part of Sunset. But since the city council basically outlawed "cruising" on Sunset Drive back in the 1990's, it's no longer even the main drag. This "legend" is largely a myth.
