pinewood and forest park are one in the same. Forest Park got the nickname pinewoods due to the name of the street it is on. The cemetary that is being talked about here is Oakwood. It is where uncle sam is buried, 157 years old, 60,000 burials. Never been in at night, pretty cool during the day though.

Oakwood cemetary is among one of the largest in the nation. It is bordered on the East by Oakwood Avenue and on the West by Gurley Avenue in Lansingburg(North Troy). There is a beautiful Crematorium there that is still in use. PBS has done a show on the Oakwood cemetary. . . . . Rudd

Here is the link to the official Oakwood Cemetery site.

Oakwood Cemetery, (Troy Cemetery Association, Inc.) was incorporated in 1848. Several dozen major Troy citizens each contributed funds to begin purchasing land for the cemetery. Many parcels were assembled, and engineer/landscape architect J. C. Sidney of Philadelphia was hired to lay out the new cemetery. The first burial was in 1850, as was the formal inauguration of the cemetery in October, 1850. The inauguration included a procession of dignitaries walking from downtown Troy, special hymns, and a consecration address by David Buell.
Troy`s Oakwood is significant in landscape architecture as one of America`s most distinguished and well-preserved 19th century rural cemeteries. J. C. Sidney went on to design part of Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia and was the principal designer of Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, both also "rural" cemeteries.
The cemetery has 5 small lakes, 5 waterfalls, about 60,000 burials, and10-12 miles of roads. It has about 400 acres, of which 330 are west of Oakwood Avenue. And since most of Oakwood sits high on a bluff above the Hudson River Valley, it has the most beautiful 100-mile viewshed of the Hudson Valley anywhere in the valley. It is also the most important and comprehensive overview of American history anywhere in the nation.

I have been to this cemetery and Mary`s statue has long been decapitated. there is a brownish red stair dripping down the front of the statue...when you first walk into this cemetery(which you aren`t supposed to be in and if you go and get caught you will get charged with tresspassing) there are these huge pine trees and the branches dont start until like 10 feet up the tree(creepy)but after that there is a cremetorium that didnt look like it was being used much at all except for crazy ritualistius ceremonies...its all vandalized and there is no roof on it...its in ruin. anyways after that there are all these pathways right and you gotta pick one i forget which one we picked but you walk down it and its like 3 ft wide and theres grass on either side...up to your waist.(creepy) anyways you walk down that until it opens up and there you will see the statue though my three friends and i had 3 huge police type maglights couldnt find the statue until it revealed itself to us...after we found it( i was crying the entire time since the cremetorium)lol we walked up to it being ever so careful not to step on any graves...superstitious i guess...anyways we walked up to it and it wasnt that scarey until we started hearing things coming from this tomb looking building which much like the cremetorium is in ruine and my friend started telling us that there were two twin girls that were put to rest in there but people vandalized it and it was in such ruin that the little girls who i believe were murdered idfk were now left to roam the cemetery b/c of the vandals. we heard them laughing ang giggling. and you could feel the presence of something (unexplainable feeling) so then i got freaked out and my friends and i were all standing in a circle and my friend sarah who was standing in front of me ( i was in the middle lol biggest chicken in the world lol) when she lit her cig i saw a face over her right shoulder it was like a typical ghostly face but you only saw it for a second and b4 i could tell he rthe flame from the lighter went out and it was gone scariest thing i`ve ever seen in my life in real life!!! i want to go back with those same people but they were all mad at me for making them leave early from crying lol and haning all over them ( i was scared and if you ever go you will see) this place is no joke make sure to hide ur car or park down the st b/c you arent supposed to go in there its all closed off but the fence only runs for like 10 ft then ends so you can walk right in if you hide carefully enough not to be seen this cemetery is also highly patrolled by the cops at night (they dont go in ) lol they are afraid hahaha oink! but if it is a scare you`re looking for this is the place like i said there are so many paths we only went down one of them but i tell ya that scared me enough for a lifetime i`m totally going to go back you should go!!!

I was in this cemetery about 2 years ago and did see that mery was headless but don't think that is the only scary part of the cemetery. I was there with 3 of my friends to see if the rumors were true. We each had flash lights but had to turn them off often inorder not to get caught. there is a whole bunch of paths you have to choose from but it doesn't matter which one you take because they are all creepy. All I could hear was footsteps and sounds that sounded lie whispers. I also got that eire feeling that I was being watched. I also went into this broke down old thing that maybe was a old crypt that caught on fire. when we went in there I got a bad feeling and felt like there was angry spirits there and was not happy we were there. All out that was the creepiest feeling of my life. I can't wait to do it again. Have fun. If you would like to know more or set up a night to go contact me at desireescott1@hotmail.com

I actually live by this cemetery. I walk my dog around at night. There are some things that go on during the night that I have noticed. Mary's statue is one of the scariest. It does actually cry blood. I've seen it. It is really crazy but it is pretty cool. I go there all the time on Halloween to try to discover some new things. I have. If you want to know more. Message me on AIM or on here.

Where exactly in Oakwood is the statue of the Virgin Mary with the blood? I moved into the area recently and have heard so much about it and I'm very interested in more information! Also, waterfalls? Where? That's pretty awesome. Anyone with directions to these particular areas of the cemetary please let me know!!

Oakwood cemetery is not haunted, if you come in through the 113th street entrance at night it might be a little spooky because there are no lights up that long hill, and the first grave you see (the angel statue with the wings spread out and arms out as if to hold something) is also a little spooky. My two bestfriends and my lil brother has gone in there well after midnight and i had lots of pictures but all we saw were a lot of deer. we went all the way to the monument that overlooks the highschool, hung out there (i had a cigarrette or two lol) and then made a wide circle through the rest of the cemetery and back out the 113th street entrance. We did see anything (but deer), and didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.

You can enter Oakwood Cemetary from the Oakwood ave. entrance only, the 101st street and the 114th street entrances have been closed. I believe the gates are closed at 4:30pm. You would need permission to enter at night. My family knew the caretaker fairly well, but it has been years since we have seen him. I don't know if he is still emplyed there, but I can ask some people who may know. It is a very large cemetary with miles of roads. Uncle Sam is buried there and there are markers directing the curious to his grave. I have been there at night and have never seen anything but have heard noises that I have passed off as animals, because there are fox and dear which do roam the area. But who knows? Nevertheless it is still a very interesting place and I have not been there in years.

No not rily the big thing is if it gets cold. Thats a cold spot. Its the belief that a spirit is trying to drain the energy to manufest its self means take form. Cause they believe that ghosts are made up of energy. But what are ghosts rily. I use to think that they were spirits of the dead but it just dosnt seem that black and white to me. Yes evp and pictures are proof of paranormal activity. Do I believe that places are haunted yes all Im saying is what are ghosts rily a trick demons messing with us or the dead we just dont know. I hope this has been helpful

I tried going to oakwood for years, and it was like a higher power didn't want me to.I live right near by in Rensselaer.I finally got to go in with my friend B in the day time.We were fishtailing his malibu and just being dumb.Nothing happened.

The second time I went in with 4 friends at night.Well early Halloween morning 2010.We came in off of Oakwood ave I believe, and had to run past a house and across a field by the crematory. We walked in  a ways, and stopped near a hill where it was more open, and me,M,and S all took a leak.I was just thinking how disapointing the place was when we all heard a moan from down the hill. The place seamed to reveal itself to you as you wondered around.Very weird. We all heard a gunshot, probbly a 22 in the middle of the place and ducked down behind headstones. It got real active as we were leavng about 3 in the morning. We heard a baby cooing or something, and footsteps on fallen leaves. We saw a shadow behind us the whole way out. When we were almost out,M said he felt like he got chopped in he throat and tears started rolling down his cheeks. We all stared feeling chills, and walked faster.Right as we were coming out of the trees and to the field I heard something breathe out a long breathe over my right shoulder.I turned to see if it was M and he was standing 3 feet away from me staring a me like he'd seen a ghost. We both booked it out of there, and the others saw us and did the same.

It was intersting for sure.

As teens we would always walk around the cemetary at night, hang out at the Robert Ross monument that overlooks Lansingburgh.  We never cause any vandalism or anything, it was just a quiet place to hang out where no one would bother us.  One night though while we were walking around my friend and I both stopped in our tracks and looked at each other at the same exact time asking each other if we heard that.  The only way I could describe this sound is it sounded like an old gravediggers cart.  It sounded like a squeaky wheel and it lasted for several moments.  Have never been back at night since.
