Location Description:

Stone spiral stair case, fire place on a cement foundation in which the Madmen lived some people say that this place has an estimated death toll of over 178 people. December 2003 Update The public is allowed there until dark. Also Madame Cherie ghost is supposedly protects her buried treasure, even though in her will, if you find it, it's yours.

AnonymousVisiter L US	I have quite a few issues with this, some are errors, some are the fact that the original poster didn't give full information. 1) first, it was Sherri, not Cherie. Originally Antoinette De Lilas, she married Andre Riela aka Antony Maculusco and her name became Madame Antoinette Berandi Maculuso. Shortly after they were married there were reports of his family living in New York, and the couple not being received well by his family. They changed their name to Sherri shortly after. And so she became Madame Antoinette Sherri, or just Madame Sherri. 2) I don't know if it's a typo or intentional, but no 'madmen' ever lived here. 3) To the best of my knowledge, no one has died here, Madame Sherri herself did not even die on the property. 4) There is no actual proof (as far as I am aware) about the will saying 'if you find it, it's yours' although this could be true. 5) She died penniless at 84 years as a ward of the town of Brattelboro. "Madame Sherri passed away at the Maple Rest Nursing Home in Brattleboro in October of 1965. Oddly, the sale of the site of the “castle” -which had burned some years earlier - and her farmhouse, was completed on the day of her death." 6) The public is allowed until dark, because the property has been donated to the Society for the Preservation of New Hampshire Forests by Anne Stokes. The 488 acres is now the Madame Sherri Forest. Also, to add to whats already up there, it was rumored that her 'castle' was a brothel, although there is no proof of this either. And she is reported to have had a pet monkey, and is said to have enjoyed being chauffeured around Keene and Brattleboro during the summer wearing nothing but a fur coat.

AnonymousVisiter	Rumor is if you stand at the top of the staircase and say "Madame Sherri" three times she will try to push you down the stairs. This is of course for local teenagers to scare each other.
