Location Description:
President Calvin Coolidge did not attend his own inaugural ball in 1925 because he was mourning the death of his son. It is said that every year since 1937, on January 20th the lights in the Grand Ballroom flicker and dim at around 10PM. The staff report finding a plate of hors d`oeuvres and a glass of wine in the Ballroom balcony. Neither item had been served at any function on that day. One elevator refuses to move from the 8th floor to the lobby level until 10:15PM, the time Coolidge would have arrived at the ball from his room.
