I have had the occassion to be in this Grand Old Building a number of times. I felt as if there were spirits but did not feel malice. I rented a large barn on the property and have seen dim lights through the windows when I knew there was nobody inside. It`s going through a renovation, bringing it back to it`s original state and will hopefully open as a comfortable Inn soon. It`s really worth a visit if you find yourself in the Hudson Valley region of NY. The folks at the McGarrah house couldn`t be nicer.

The McGarrah Inn was sold a while ago to a historic society and is currently being renovated. The Inn will house a museum. It is also home to the Cornerstone Masonic Lodge 711, which I am a member. I was helping clean up the old meeting room on the 2nd floor recently when I was overcome with a very cold breeze. My son was with me and I asked him who opened the window. We both looked around and no window was open nor was there any logical source for the cold breeze. Could it have been the Ghost? More than one of my fellow Masons have actually seen the ghost who is described as a man with long hair wearing a top hat. He likes to walk around the 2nd floor it seems. Knocks or footsteps have been heard when there were no humans the area of the Inn where the sounds came from. I don't believe in ghosts but the fact is that something besides us Masons are in that house!

Im with a scout troop that camped outside of the lodge one night in april we went in for a few hours to do a small investigation being that we all had a interest in the paranormal and we got tons of E.V.Ps later on when we looked at the evidence but while we were there we heard foot steps we were lucky enough to get the footsteps on a recording as well. I hope to return with my youth paranormal investigation group one night In my opinion has a paranormal investigator this old building is definitly haunted

Hi guys:

My name is George and I am the Secretary of the Masonic Lodge that meets, and through the Cornerstone Masonic Historic Society, owns the McGarrah's Stage Coach Inn in Monroe, NY. Take my word for it, the building is haunted. My brothers and I (Masons cal each other Brothers) have met the stay behinds more than once! The Inn was built around 1790 to 1800 and served as a Stage Coach stop for close to 100 years. I imagine in that time and even when the Inn was occupied as a residence that more than one person died there.. There doesn't seem to be any place in the Inn the ghosts don't frequent. If it isn't the young boy in the attic rooms it is the short man with the stove pipe hat and long shoulder length hair walking all the other rooms, hallways and staircases. Then there is the shadow man in the basement! Maybe others but these are the ones we have met so far :o)

The Inn is available for tours to select groups and people. You can contact me for details. A tax deductible donation to the Cornerstone Masonic History Society is required and the amount of the donation depends on the nature and length of the tour. During the last tour I gave the EMF readings in certain areas were amazing as were the temperature drops. One EVP in particular sent chills down my spine.

Anyhow, if you are interested you can email me at cornerstone.711@hotmail.com.
