Location Description:

Some say the Aldridge Hotel must be the most haunted spot in Shawnee. When the nine-story hotel stood vacant and neglected for decades, its broken windows and boarded-up entrance formed a great backdrop for the imagination. A strong feeling of fear has been felt on the 1st and 3rd floors.

A bride whose groom stood her up, hung herself in the Aldridge: a child met a tragic end when she fell down the stairs of the hotel: others perished when fire broke out in the grand ballroom one Halloween night, she said.

Rhonda White, a marketing director for the Aldridge Apartments, said a tenant swore she was hearing voices in her apartment. It was later determined that the voices were coming from her neighbor`s apartment though the building`s vent system, she said.

2004 UPDATE: The Aldridge is currently undergoing rennovation into low income housing.

2006 UPDATE: The Aldridge Hotel is now know as the Aldridge Apartments

AnonymousVisiter ** US	Didn't part of it used to be a hospital? My friends used to break into that section of building. A lot of supplies were left there. Looks freaky at night!

AnonymousVisiter ** US	the small building directly to the West of the hotel was a hospital and yes Brad Pitt was born there. One should read up on their history of our town "living up the street or near something" does not make one an expert on times before we were born.

Living "right up the street" indeed DOES NOT make a person an expert on Shawnee history. I live 3 blocks away and am not an expert at all-but I do love resourcing the history of downtown Shawnee! Thank you for making the statement you did.

AnonymousVisiter FLORIDA US	I AM A VERY PROUD SHAWNEE RESIDENT-AND JUST WANT TO GO ON RECORD BY SAYING THE ALDRIDGE IS AN AWESOME PLACE NOW AGAIN- AND THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE-where does ANYBODY get off by looking down their noses and making such an uneducated statement as 'low rent place' these people who live there have lived collectively- hundreds of years as productive citizens. In the Autumn of their lives- they deserve a beautiful living arrangements such as has been made available to them there. Who are YOU to 'look down your nose" at these precious 64 people who have given so many years to us as local citizens? At least use your computers to research the RICH history of this grand old building- before you make disparaging comments.

AnonymousVisiter	I remember in Middle School and High School hearing about people breaking into The Aldridge to do Satanic rituals. When I was going to OBU in '03 a group of guys broke in and had a look. I went later that summer by myself and saw a pentagram with three upside down crosses hanging off the bottom 3 points and saying "the devil's work" underneath them.There was also a circle of black candles and a bird skeleton in the middle of them in front of the graffiti. It was really creepy going in alone at night. Pigeons and other birds busted windows in the upper levels and would make noises that sounded like someone was walking around up there. I also saw signs of vagrants living inside the rooms. I didn't visit all the floors, but I got up to the Penthouse and there was a ladder to get on the very top. The view was amazing. I went back several times before they began remodeling. Each time was great. Other friends from OBU went to the hospital next door. I saw some pics, looks pretty cool. I'm way too old for that kind of stuff anymore. I go on occasion to the barber shop there, and a few years back attended a wedding reception in the ballroom. I think it's great the building is being used again. Such a large building to just be sitting there all those years.
