Location Description:
There are many unrested spirits there. _________________________
Kaplan's Woods is park in the City of Owatonna with a rich history. Kaplan's Woods used to be owned by the Kaplan Family back in the 1800`s. In later years, Kaplan's Woods was donated to the State of Minnesota. In the late 1990's the Kaplan home that was originally on the land was demolished. Perhaps all the restless souls in Kaplan's Woods are those of the Kaplan ancestors. The Kaplan family loved the woods but many are buried in the Bohemian National Cemetary in Owatonna.
Kaplan's Woods
is part of the land orignally owned by Josef Kaplan, and later Victor
and Anna Kaplan. The Kaplan`s Woods Parkway
contains over 6 miles of hiking and cross country skiing trails, and
nearly two miles of hard—surfaced, handicapped—accessible trail. The
parkway includes Lake Kohlmier, a 35 acre lake. Maps of the parkway are
available at the Park and Recreation office.
In 1998, the Owatonna Foundation contributed $115,000 to widen the original trail and include security lighting.

Just a quick note, Kaplans Woods also contains Lake Kohlmier. There are seperate entrances for both parks. They are considered seperate "parks" but they are connected together. Be aware of where you are. These woods are huge and if your going to be in them for awhile, bring a flashlight otherwise you COULD GET LOST. There are maps that frequent the woods, so if you do get lost, find a main trail and stick to it until you find one of these maps. I'm (angel_in_hell) speaking from experience.... Also, you might want to wear tennis-shoes, a long-sleeved shirt and pants if your going to wander off the main trail. BRING A FLASHLIGHT. These woods are very dense and get pitch black at times. Depending on where you are, the moon will sometimes be your only light.
