Hell Church
Canton, Ga 30107

County: Cherokee County
WebSite: None

Hell Church is a place located in the old part of Canton. There is a long narrow road going back into the woods that is very difficult to get down. You then come upon a church, out in the middle of nowhere, there is a very small (one room ) and white. Located directly across the road is a cemetery with graves dating back to the 18th century. Although there have been accounts of graves freshly dug. The story goes that back in the 80`s a boy was found mutilated. Most say that it was a cult killing. But the church was shut down and the newspaper clipping of this horrible event still exists. The church has been reopened but there are still accounts of hearing faint piano music coming from inside the church late at night.

I went there on 6/21/2007 at 12am-2am. I was there with 3 other people. We didn`t experience anything strange at all. We went back into Canton to make sure we had the correct location. We found a group of people that were on their way there and we followed them. After arriving with them we still did not experience anything.

Upon our first walk around we didn`t know if it was the correct location, just to make sure we walked the woods around the church for about an hour, found a baptism pool, walked the grave yard and all. Nothing, I will go back however.

You are all morons. I belong at this church and still attend it. Yes it is old is why there are old graves. Also there ARE reports of fresh dug graves because members have recently passed, including my family. There were some people once who also believed it was haunted so they burned our old church down.....they are still in jail. You will be able to hear faint piano noises at night...during our revival. Also if anyone wants to visit the church go ahead because I live close to it and whenever cars head back there we make sure the police come visit them down there. It is a baptist church, let this stupid "hell church" thing go...

Directions to Hell's Church: From Hwy 140 - Reinhardt College Pky turn left onto Shoal Creek Rd. which turns into Old Shoal Creek Rd. Keep left until the road dead ends at the New Hightower Baptist Church (Hell's Church)

I just recently went there with a friend of mine. We looked everywhere for it on the internet but couldn't find it. THis should end all of yur troubles: You get off of the canton ezit either coming north or south on 575. You should see a Williamson Bros. BBQ restaurant right across the street. Turn right and go about 2 or 3 miles and you should come to a main intersection with a Walgreens on the left, and a CVS on the right. Turn left past the Walgreens and it is the first left road kind of going downhill (it should be right past a road on the right called hospital road). Follow the left road for about 2-3 more miles staying left the whole time because there are random forks and streets going off to the right of the road but do not take them. A ways into the woods the 2 lane road that you are on will turn into a 1 lane road. Just follow it no matter if you think you are lost and it just runs right into Hell's Church. There is a graveyard on the left right across the street of the church which is on the right, when you get to it. Also another tip, if you drive to the back of the church, you will see a dirt road just off of it to the back left of the church. If you drive down it it will go about 50 yards downhill until it opens up into a flat clearing with trees all around. And there will be a big concrete what looks to be like a hot tub in the middle of the forest. It has a handrail that you can see without getting out of your car. Then when you get out the handrail leads to nothing. I is a big 10x10 cement hole with a handrail in the middle of it leading down to dirt that has built up over the years in the hole. Check it out and if you know anything about it or have any questions feel free to post a response I will reply.

I have been there so many times its not even funny and the only thing that has ever happened to me is getting kicked out by the cops. I went on halloween night and stood in the baptising pool and everything and still nothing. I will admit that it is a alittle eerie being there at night b/c its in the middle of no where

i have also been there, but still nothing really happened. We did hear something that sounded like carnival music in the woods, probably by someone with a tape player. But, some local teenagers where there, my guess is to scare off others who come there. As we pulled up they yelled something, jumped in their car and peeled off. then shortly after that the police came and told us to leave. So we returned around 2 am and no one was there and the music had stopped. We poked our heads into the unlocked door that went under the church. nothing there. we looked around and everything seemed to be normal.

I went out last night with a couple friends we walked around for about and hour...our flashlights with brand new batteries went dead in an hour...kinda weird..it wasn't just one either like something sucks out the energy. We took lots of pictures...but not really sure what I should be looking for.

I went out there on Friday, with a friend of mine... At first nothing weird happened except us just getting the heebie jeebies. We walked around the cemetery first and then accross the street to the church. When we went back to the cemetary, we started to walk up to the far left, I was about to start snapping some pictures, and my friend turned on the tape recorder to see if we could pick up any EVPs. I was about to start taking pictures, and all of a sudden you could hear coyotes or something in the distance. Within 10-12 seconds, the coyote sound got closer and closer until it literally sounded like they were right on top of us, we hauled butt to the car and took off. As we were leaving the cemetery, we played back the recorder. The last thing on the tape (right before we took off to the car) is someone whispering what sounds like "you just need to go". This is what we caught right before the coyotes. It might be our minds playing tricks on us, but it sure does sound like that's what they're saying. I want to submit it to someone to "zoom" in on the audio! CREEPY!!!!!!!!!!!

me and some friends went last night. we recorded EVP's and we heard a voice say "leave now" and then later in the same recording we heard a deep, angry growl. we also took tons of pictures, and there were orbs everywhere. and in one of the pictures, we saw a mist rising from a grave that was very distinct. it had facial features. needless to say, we got the hell out of there lol

OMG!!! That happened to us the night before (10-8-08)...The whole Coyotes thing. We heard like pups off in the distance and then like a minute later it was like they were "flying" they were coming so fast. We did the same thing. Got out of there. It was really creepy like they were hunting...My friend works with dogs and we all agreed that coyotes don't hunt in packs but they defiantly sounded like they were hunting. That is Crazy about your tape. We got Orbs in our pictures but I don't know if they are spirit orbs or just dust.

To the person that commented about the EVP and would like to submit it to someone to zoom in on it. I will gladly take a look at it and clarify what you are hearing. You can email it to me @ evolutionlost@yahoo.com Me and a couple friends will be visiting this Sunday night to the church and cemetery. If we encounter the noises of the coyotes, speaking for myself not them will wait around to be able to give insight to people if these are really coyotes or what, I'm not worried about it, but I just want to clear this up for people that havent waited around. So be looking for a comment in the next few days to the ones that are interested.

Me and my girlfriend have been here several times and find the place pretty interesting. We have gotten some pretty good pics and one of which looks like a face in the left window bottom right hand side above the sill. Just today we went during the day and walked down the trail behind the church to find the 10x10 cement "hot tub" like thing. Not really sure what it is, does anyone have any clue what it is. It looks somewhat like something to do with baptism for the church. if you want any pics or more info email my girlfriend at devynntuck69@live.com

Me and 3 friends went to Hell's Church tonight, we arrived around 12:30 am and left around 2:30 am. I must say it is a very interesting place, it seemed to be quite active. First time ever being there, at times I felt a very eerie presence surrounding us. A couple occassions both I and 2 other of the frineds that were with me witnessed a very fast stream of light that glided through a couple of trees, not really sure wht it could have been , I myself walked to the back of the church into the gathering area i suppose, the covered area out behind the church. Well, I started walking the trail to the baptism pool and just as I got onto the trail, Coyotes started howling, and as a couple other posters have said, it got closer and closer. 2 of my friends ran fast as a bullet back to the car, me and my other friend just casually walked back and stayed outside of the car, nothing approached us at all. I think the very oddest thing , was 2 I guess physical human beings were at the end of the graveyard not far into the woods, wearing all white.. and I was assured they wer not Klansman by myself becaues there were noo hoods. But shortly after.. 30 minutes or so, of them just scavenging around, it's as if they disappeared.. they didnt come up the road.. didnt leave in any car. Very odd if you ask me.. but yeah, overall I got a mixture of vibes on this certain night.. good and bad. Something didnt want us there, then something else was welcoming us. I will be going back.

I have been to this location many times. When we first started going, back in 2005, we just went for privacy. So we could all just talk and chill out together. Then about two years later, I learned that it was the infamous "hell's" church. All those visits and I didn't even know I was at THE hell's church. Anyway, we kept going back and hanging out until one night when the police showed up, searched our car, our person, and the girls' purses. That's when we learned that the real threat of hell's church isn't the thought of ghosts, but the amount of drug/violent activity that goes on back there. Apparently it's a popular place for pick-ups, and there has been more than one poor soul left for dead back there after a beating. I advise you, if you choose to go back there at night, go with a group. Remember, you're MILES from the nearest house and no one can hear your calls for help. Just be safe while exploring the haunts of Georgia.

March 7,2009..A group of us went to the church. We took lots of pics and recorded at few minutes trying to see if anything would happen. We walked the trail to the side of the church and that's when the coyotes started to howl. Creepy..We heard gunshots in the distance and made our way back up to the church. Takin more pics out of no where flying like crazy a cop comes. I am in criminal justice and everything this cop did was wrong. He never asked us who, where or what we were doing. Never ran our tags. All he said was no ghost hear, no killings here no satan here you need to leave. For the ones who have been here you very well know you cant not fly up and down the road or you will wreck. This cop was gone in a matter a secs..Anyone else have this happen? BUT in the end we did catch soome orbes on film and 2 differnt pics you can see a shape watching us..so who knows...

I am pretty much sick of all the hubub there - I grew up here and all the things that supposedly happened here are bogus. There are NO articles about a boy being dismembered or anything of the sort. There are articles about the kid who burned down the church, though. He was just an agry kid who was mad at the congregation. As a matter of fact, the church isn't where it was when it burned. Stop going there -

First of all the story about the boy being killed is untrue. The statement that the church was shut down is also untrue. The fact is that this church as been around since the 1800's. It is filled with many good and decent people who have suffered at the hands of the terrible rumors that are being circulated by unmoralled web sited like this. Also the church was burned down, but that was by a troubled boy who blamed it on the rumors he had heard about the church. He wasn't angry with the congregation at all. Please don't go there and hurt these good people any more.

i drove down there one day about 4 pm 2 years ago. I was by myself  I was driving down the road and came around the curve and could see the church then a guy walked out into the road and motioned me to come down next to him. my car sits low to the ground and theres ditches on each side of the road so i backed out about a quarter mile before i could turn around. I been down there a cou[le times since then. nothing happened. I live in canton and everyone agrees that its bull and nobody ive talked to ever experianced anything except the police running them off. I know a kid whos dad is a local cop and he said they patrol it about every 2 hours. and if you do go down there the road going back there is really narrow so if you meet a cop you cant really pass them you'll probably have to back up or something unless your in a truck

Some friends and I just went to Hells Church last night (2/22/10)
Nothing weird happened-- just some clicking noises in the woods every now and then..
We all stood in the baptism pool and nothing happened. We took pictures and there were no signs of orbs etc... We were unable to explore anymore of the area due to getting caught by the cops. Apparently alot of drugs, sex, etc... is happening there and in my point of view it is somewhat disrespectful.

Sorry, but there are no figures in your photo. What you are seeing is the refraction of the light from the lens of your camera because you took the photo looking right into the sun. No Ghosts, no faces, just glare. Maybe next time.

I visit this church quite often. The church is filled with nice and friendly people. -sigh- I know it's fun to try and scare yourself into thinking that this place is haunted, but it's not. When you go and poke around the church and the baptizing hole it's just disrespectful. Just leave it alone, please?

I went this weekend. I didnt read any of the comments on this page untill after I went as I didnt want to be biased in what i was looking for. When I got there I did hear the coyotees. Me and my fiance caught several pictures of orbs in the cemetary, and heard snarling sounds that seemed to be coming from right in front of us. We also picked up two voices on our digital recorder and we were the only two out there that night untill the police showed up and asked us to leave. We do feel that there is paranormal activity there, but dont advise going as the police will give you a hard time for trespassing.

Well I must say I did get all my pictures that in all of them orbs everywhere, light ones and very dull ones. There were noises, none that were coyotes, but it was like a bird, whenever we were near the church it would just chirp chirp but as soon as we got near our car when we were leaving it would just stop. We'd see lights going on and off in the forest, but no one out there because it was the direction of where the old church was in the back.
We never made our way to the pool, because I was the one who just sat in the car because my friends were making dumb ideas involving the devil and blood.
But I was the most interested in the cemetery because I was interested in the dates, and also the creepy shadows and such that were going on.
When we left apparently my friend had heard a creepy little kids laughter.

After leaving I had noticed that my friend had stole a tombstone from a 10y/o kids grave, so of course I returned the next morning to return it, where I then ventured down to the pool area, where during the day it is still creepy and eerie.

I'd love to go back again one day.

And if anyone else is interested in going or going again, should definitely invite me

i went there on halloween night, and nothing really happened but it was still very creepy. my friends told me to take pictures, and in some you could see orbs and actually figures of ghosts or spirits when you look back on the camera. freaky. the pictures with the night flash were all semi blury, but i don't think it was because of me. one picture you can see a person walking in all white in the back ground. another you can see faces but you have to know what your looking for. if you look closely you can see faces and actual bodies standing. here some of the pictures and i did not edit them. thats how scary they are people thought i edited them!

Me and a couple friends went to the Church (at the wrong time of night). We walked around the Church to find a Klan meeting going on inside. That in itself was creepy enough

Please tell me where I can find one single newspaper clipping of the boy that was  found mutilated because of a occult killing in the 1980s.

I have never found anything close to that in the local Cherokee Tribune or the Atlanta Journal Constitution.Beside there where only three murders in the whole of Cherokee county from 1980 to 1989.

There are a lot of stupped people and are black hearted liars in this world.

If the shoe fitts, Well then wear it

Hells Church isn't real. Its High Tower Baptist Church. People still attend the church today. I am from Canton and my grandmother used to be a member at the church. My grandfather is buried in the cemetery. The area has had a lot of vandalism in the past due to idiot teens. It even burnt down once...hence the name NEW High Tower Baptist. If you continue driving down the road past the church the road ends at a grassy area, back around there is where the old church used to be. The cement hole in the back is a baptism pool. The church is just your typical southern baptist church...welcome to Canton folks.

Me and my gf went there about two years ago and met these guys who said they was looking for Bigfoot and then when they pulled out in trucks they stopped for a minute or two then they speeded out of there and when we drove out right behind them they was nowhere to be seen

I went with some friends and I started to record a video on my camera and I ended it at 4 minutes when we were in the car. Well I started to watch it and it was only 30 seconds long, and it ended right after, "we just left Hell's Church." right after it ended my camera turned off by itself with 64% battery left. Also, my friend refused to look into the church because anytime she does, she sees a little boy in the church. She also said she was driving away one night and she looked in her rear view mirror and saw the little boy in her back seat. Coinsidens? I don't think so.

I went to Hells Church when I first moved to Canton- before I started looking up local haunts- by accident. I was driving around randomly exploring the area and ended up going down Shoal Creek (just follow it to the left) until it dead-ended at the church (There are actually a few churches that do this in Canton. They just liked being creepy with God here, I guess).

It IS creepy, but in the day its like any other church. It doesn't look particularly spooky, just old and plain. I never heard anything and Ive been there a few times during the day and night.

Pretty church, nice story- but theres nothing there but the same unsettling feeling that comes with ALL old buildings in remote wooded places.

If you wanna know what it looks like etc: http://deborahwilson.blogspot.com/2010/02/new-hightower-church.html

My name is April. I have been to this sight only twice. I too went to see what everyone was talking about but mostly because I do believe this sight has some activity. I would like to let anyone who looks at this sight that is tied to New Hightower Baptist I was not there due to the "stories" I was there because I was draw there. Yes the story of the boy found murdered there is false and the young man did burn you old church down for reasons you may not understand does NOT mean there is nothing there. I understand that what some people have done to the grave sites of loved ones is not only a crime but a travesty and my heart goes out to you all! I also understand your frustration however threatening people with legal and verbal assault is not the way to get your point across how would you feel if some one where to threaten you for something that is your constitutional right! This sight can not be added to any law suite because it is the site owner's right to 'voice' his or her opinions on this subject and just because you yourself haven't experienced anything doesn't make it any less real. How else would you explain a lot of the evidence some of these people have found or experienced? Do you call them liars because you don't believe? To quote John 8:7 "He who is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her."  or Acts 28:24 "And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believe not."  Not always is Seeing believing, sometimes believing is seeing. I don't think anyone should discredit someone for some thing just because they have yet to feel, see,or touch. That would be like anyone of the people in the world telling you the lord does not exist. Not would it only be completely wrong for it because it is your right a a human being to believe in any deity you want to but just because they and others don't believe in the lord doesn't make him any less real. Myself and others did not go there to be disrespectful to you or any of the other families that attend or have family laid to rest there. Some of them were just curious or like me drawn there for some reason. I just moved to Georgia from Florida and never heard any of these rumors or about you church just simply stumbled upon it driving one day. I got out and walked up to you lovely building and read the plaque you have there in memory of your old church. I am sorry you feel that your congregation is plague by such sadness and acts of vandalism but it is not to the faults of this site or any other. It is the people who lack complete and utter respect for human life. Most "ghost hunter" know that these spirits where once people like you and me and they too had had families and loved ones and are respectful to that fact and don't go to these places to up set people but to investigate as to why they haven't moved on and to see if they can help them to so they can because they have family and friends waiting for them who just as the family here on earth miss them they as well miss them just as much. I'm not here to make excuses for those who don't believe as most of the people here who just go to see what the fuse is about or to trash the sites of the loved ones buried there for there aren't any excuses for the disrespectful acts however Just because your mad at them does not give you the right to blame and fault others for their actions and not every visitor to New Hightower Baptist church and cemetery are there to be rude and indifferent to you beliefs they are just looking for answers to other things. I can say this because I know a few of the people who have posted to this site and they did not intend to anger you however your site is beautiful and can not help themselves. I take my son on the trails behind your church that the troops created in 2010 that cross the small river that was once the spot for you baptisms. So with all that being said I can only hope that the next time you see a post here you think twice before you assume that those peoples intentions are to destroy. Most people go there to reflect and morn for the families who have lost their loved ones. I hope you could understand. Much respect. April.

I am a georgia certified paranormal investigator named Audrey. i now live in canton and have been to the church 6 times. each time i go, the cops are aware of me there, so they do not disturb me. All i do is take pictures and recordings. i have caught extreme evidence. Sometimes you have to have the right equipment and people to catch things. Spirits can sense us and what condition we are in. If we are in the right condition, the spirits will make contact. I have met 3 spirits of the church, two are very saddening. One calls herself crystal, she is a young woman. I have made contact with her using evps (electronic voice phenamon) and it is proved there are trapped souls. The other spirit is a young boy named Thomas, who mostly haunts the cemetery and where the picnic tables are. But the evil one calls himself Master Jacob. He can be very rude and scary. I have gone over my evps a million times and know when something is evil. He has scratched me, he has mocked me, and even followed me home, causing me to have nightmares for a full week. I have even caught red eyes INSIDE of the church while standing by the door, listening for voices and other noises. These eyes are too spread apart to be normal. If you want to review my evidence, my website is: gaparanormal.webs.com

Ok, let me clear this all up for you guys. I just went to the church last night ( 6/19/2012 ). Of course everyone heard the rumors about the devil worshipers and satanic practices that occurred there. That church has been branded " hells church " or a reason. So I wanted to check it out. Upon arrival, nothing seemed werid. I didn't see anything, or hear anything unusual. I was getting bored and wanted to leave. Right as I was about to get back into my car with my friends, I took one picture of the church because it looked pretty creepy. But when I went to look at the picture, I became very disturbed. I couldn't believe my eyes. What I saw made me a true believer in the ghost stories. Let me please tell you that I tried to disprove that picture anyway I could. I tried to make excuses for what came up in the picture but I couldn't disprove it. My number is 678-276-9299. If you want to see the pic, I will send it to you

My name is Allen, and I am filming a documentary on the area. If anyone would like to discuss Hell's Church on camera, please contact us at:

We are looking for people to interview, who have been to the location and experienced something, people who have lived in the area and have any stories to tell, or church members who want to dispel the myths surrounding it.

I have three stories; two of which I have seen personally, one is a story I heard. 1) When I was 19, my soon-to-be first wife and I were down there wondering about in the woods and trails just past the gate at the turn around. On our way back, we heard a lot of commotion. It was the sound of cars, burning out tires, people whooping and hollering. My old car was there and I was afraid it was going to get vandalized so we waited (hid). At no time did I think this was anything "ghostly" or anything. I could smell the fumes and rubber for crying out loud. As I heard the cars peel out, we got up and ran to to the car. Guess what? No one around!!! No burn out marks. We hopped in the car and drove as fast as I could and there was NO ONE on the road. 2) My current wife were there in or around 2004-2005. I had told Racquel about the first encounter and the ancient graveyard. About 15 years had passed since I was there last. Anyway, Racquel saw someone sitting on a tombstone and I always had an overwhelming feeling of dread wash over me. We got in the car and left. Never been back. 3) This was told to me by my late uncle James "Sonny" Roberts, a long time Cherokee County resident: Back in the 1920's or so, Clint Shirley (1906-2000) came upon a home back in the woods where he found a man had murdered his wife and child and then killed himself. The people were supposedly buried in the graveyard at Hightower. This is why I was there in 2004 with my wife. We like to look at historic cemeteries. Any way, my name is David Beachel, and I swear what I just wrote is the truth.
