Rm 402 is where John Wayne often stayed, and reportedly had his own ghostly encounter in that room.
It is rumored that two prostitutes were killed in the 1940`s and their bodies thrown out of a 3rd floor window. A presence is often felt in Rm 306.
Rm 305 is also known as the "Rocking Chair Room". It was featured on Unsolved Mysteries. Supposedly everytime someone walked into the room, the rocking chair was moved to a different spot. Some people have even seen a female spirit sitting in the rocking chair in the middle of the night.
Rm 210 is the room in which a phantom bellboy will knock on the door announcine room service, when the door is opened, no one is there.
Rm 220 is the most active room. It was inhabited by a reclusive man, who had odd behavior (would hang raw meat from chandelier). He passed in the early 1980`s and his body sat undiscovered for a few days. It is said a sense of extreme loneliness and sadness pervades this room.
Sometimes baby`s cries are heard by night auditors coming from the basement.

I stayed here for 2 nights (December 16th and 17th 2006) with my husband, and had a wonderful time. If you have an affinity for old and historic places, then this hotel will suit your needs. Of course what initially attracted me to the place is the reputation of being one of the most haunted hotels in Flagstaff. I would say that I was satisfied with what we experienced in our room, number 314. The first night nothing strange happened. I decided to "ask" outloud the second night for something, or someone to let us know they where there. At around 2 am we awoke to a loud crash in the room: A plastic grocery bag with 2 bottled waters sitting on the table had fallen over. Neither one of us was brave enough to get up and investigate. The next morning, I found my lint remover roller along with the bottled waters on the floor, a few feet away from the table. For me, this was proof enough that someone had listened to and obliged my request. Although I really wanted to actually see something, this incident was satisfying enough for me. I would definitely go back to stay again at the Monte Vista, next time perhaps requesting one of the other rooms known to have more of a history of phenomena.

I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and had a pretty chilling experience in the John Wayne room. I woke up to two people talking (a man and a woman). All i remember was the man saying its 3:30 its 3:30 and the woman mumbling. I sat up really quick and it stopped. I looked over at the clock and sure enough it was 3:30

I stayed there for a night in December 2007 with my boyfriend. That night I couldn't sleep because I had an uneasy feeling and sat up for hours in bed. I fell asleep for a short time only to be woken up by noises like someone moving things around in the bathroom and turning the water on and off, almost like someone taking a shower. I thought maybe it was my boyfriend, until I rolled over and saw him asleep next to me. I was too freaked out to get up and open the bathroom door to check it out so I just sat and listened. I t went on for about 10 minutes then stopped. About an hour later I noticed what looked like the silhouette of a man standing in the doorway of the closet across from the bed. I stared at it for a few seconds, then woke my boyfriend up, but of course when I did it disappeared. He still thinks I'm crazy, but I know what I saw.

I love this hotel, and I stay there often. I can't say I have really experienced much of anything, but I can sleep through just about anything. In 314 our TV turned on and off several times during the night, which could have been a timer issue or something. However, my wife was seriously disturbed both by the TV in this room, and intense fear of a chair in another room for reasons I can't explain. At any rate, the hotel is beautiful, and it's a fun spot to stay.
