Location Description:

The Bush House Country Inn was established in 1898. It was built for miners who where moving to Index. At the turn of the century there was a young woman named Annabel that came to Index to wed. Her future husband worked in the mines. Well there was an explosion and word got down the valley to Annabel that her husband to be had been killed in the explosion. After getting word of this she hung herself, in room 9. Turned out that her future husband had not been killed and went to get Annabel and found that she was dead. Rumor is that he then killed himself. Annabel’s ghost still haunts The Bush House today. Along with some other people that have died there. Table 2 is said to be Annabel’s table.

grimm77 Online Now!	I did a little research about the Bush House and heard rumors that it was closed -- inspectors found that the foundation is crumbling and the owner either didn`t have the funds or the inclination to fix it. I took a trip to Index today and confirmed that it`s closed, and it`s for sale. I wanted to creep around the grounds in hope of picking up an EVP or two, but it was rainy and muddy. But I did manage to snap a pic of the place (any orbs you see are rain). I really hope that whoever buys the place decides to renovate it instead of tearing it down... it`s a really nice historical site, and haunted to boot.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	I live directly next door to the Bush House and I can say that it is indeed haunted because the gosts visit us. Our house is not for sale, by the way. It was renovated and we began leasing it a couple months ago. The owner did not tell us about the Bush House history though, we heard about it from the local townsfolk after I mentioned the strange things happening after we moved in! I am a Christian and didn't think I believed in gosts, but I am convinced that something is going on here. Our bedroom window faces the side of the Bush House, and sometimes lights go on and off upstairs in the middle of the night. I have also seen a woman in a white nightgown with long hair at the window. As for the activity in my house, it is not malicious...I think they are just bored. Doors sound as if they are being opened and shut but are in the same position if you look at them, and lights turn off by themselves. Funniest of all are the soaps. There are three sinks in my house and I keep soap and lotion at each one. They sometimes get turned around 180 degrees so you have to turn them back around to use them. Lately I have started hearing footsteps in the middle of the night which I don't like at all. I go out there and of course I see nothing but I continue to hear the footsteps walking away from me. I heard also that just before the Bush House closed some people got drunk at the lounge there and decided to play "chicken" on the train tracks right next to it, and a man died as a result. I am losing sleep over this because my husband works nights and I am here alone with my kids. I plan on asking our friend to pray over the house with us this weekend. I'll put up another post next week and let you know what happens. As a side note, when we first moved here in April it had a For Sale sign out front but that has been taken down. No one knows if it is still for sale or not.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	I lived in the bush house for a few years till 05 and i belive that it is haunted but not malicious; however the home next to it towards the tracks is bad juju I would not enter it again. The property is owned by a member of the Nordstrom family who seems reluctant to spend any money on upkeep or renovation. Only the rear wing where the bar is and the adjoining banquet room were condemned for termites in the floor, some work was done to stabilize the structure to avoid collapse. The story about the train accident is true i knew the two fellows involved slightly, they were sitting at the bar having a few when they heard the train blow its horn as it always does heading through town when they decided to race the train to the crossing one was cut in half and the other was badly injured but lived I was told that the dead mans cigarettes and drink remained on the bar in mute testamony. A woman was also killed at that crossing years before, her car hit by the train and dragged for a mile before the train could stop. A creepy spot I always hurried by when passing it at night.i wish some real creditable ghost people would study the place.

I have read a lot of articles about the bush house and the house next door being haunted, not to mention the fact that there is a legend attached to it. Last time I visited the place, It was up for sale for a couple of mil... I hope that eventually someone buys it and puts it on the national historic registry.

AnonymousVisiter T US	I stayed on the Bush House on several occasions. If it was haunted, it was haunted by joyful ghosts. I remember being welcomed warmly, enjoying home made berry cobbler by a roaring fire in the cobblestome fireplace. I remember the sad sound of the train whistles as they past in the dark night but feeling safe and happy inside. Oh the breakfasts were so wonderful. I am sad that it has been shuttered up.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	well I briefly lived in gold bar, that whole area is bad juju, lots of tweekers and druggies,generally trashy people, no jobs and just a trashy kind of area to live. Their schools are bad too. I did go visit the bush house and I got a creepy feeling about it. I climbed all around and looked inside, some windows were not boarded up. Anyway. that was my experience at the bush house in Index ,gold bar and Sultan.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	Dear Anoymous visitor, You should not climb rond or trespass on the property. Firtst of all it is private property and the town of Index will call 911 on anybodytht is trespassig! We are doing this because it is the towns treasure and soon will be restored due to vandilsm there has been $ 20,000 in damage. Second of all areas that are unsafe. There is also signs thayt say no tresspassing.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	i used to live 3 houses next to the bush house and my mom worked ther its hunted all right in room 9 she makes and unmakes the beds right in frunt of you but she dose not mean any harm i hope as well that it gets fixt up its sad to see it the way it is i used to play ther as a kid with my cuzins and the tracks many peopl have died on over the years its one of the most deadly spots on the track in washington the spots literd with crosses its realy sad to see.

AnonymousVisiter	I have been to the Bush house in the 1960's when a relative of my husband's aunt owned it. They did a lot ow work on it back then. They gave my daughter a bed and a camode from the hotel. It was a beautiful old place. We loved going for visits.

AnonymousVisiter INDIANA US	According to Facebook.... There are new owners and they are renovating the inn back and working on getting it back to it's beautiful self :) Looks like they have a new roof, there is a tree out back that is being taken down and cut up for fire wood. The Bush House Country Inn has a new name Bush House Mountain Inn. There are many changes that are planned for the next couple months. Can't wait! I wanted to visit this place for quite some time now.
