Comment: The New Mount Ida Cemetery was our early childhood playground. Often overgrown as we were growing up, We would build forts in the weeds and we had a small plot near our entrance for burying dead birds and squirrels. We lived on Seymour Ct. At the end of our street was a dead end sign, and behind that was our unofficial entrance. I found out just a couple of years ago that a friend of my older brother had pushed down a whole bunch of grave stones in the early 70s. I`d like to be burried there but There are no records that I know of. The new mount Ida cemetery is bordered on the south side by Pinewoods Ave. and on the north side by Belle Ave. On the west, Seymour court runs to it`s border. On the east is a fence that has 4 arches that lead to the Jewish cemetery. One arch is small and in disrepair. We called that the entrance to Hell. In the middle is a larger and nicer arch. We called that pergatory. On the left hand side is a grand arch that we called heaven. The gates to heaven were always locked, but there was a smaller arch attached to it. We always entered heaven through the side arch.
